Aus dem Jahr 1658 ist überliefert, dass Rudolph von Grimming auf dem Wanker Berg einen Bildstock mit seinem Marienbild aufstellte und ihn mit einer offenen hölzernen Kapelle überbaute. Die Marienwallfahrt hat ein 1633 nach einem Brand unter dem Schutt unbeschädigt aufgefundenes Gemälde der Mutter Gottes als Ursprung. Dies war der Anfang der Maria-Trost-Wallfahrt. Heute ruft der Allgäuer Gautrachtenverband alljährlich im Mai zur Trachtenwallfahrt.
Nach der Wanderung vom Parkplatz der Alpspitzbahn über den Kreuzweg mit 14 Stationen bietet eine 350 Jahre alte Linde Schatten und Bänke zur Rast. Wer es bequemer mag, bezahlt am Automaten inder Alpenstraße eine Mautgebühr und folgt dem Forstweg bis zum Parkplatz kurz vor Maria Trost. Treten Sie ein und lassen Sie sich von der Schönheit dieser kleinen Kapelle inspirieren.

Zug aus Richtung Pfronten/Reutte oder Kempten (Außerfernbahn), täglich stündlich von 7.00 bis 19.00 Uhr, unregelmäßig auch früher oder später.
