The Eichtal Trail with its Bird Education Trail
The Eichtalweg trail begins at the town boundary of Hördt on Schanzengraben. After a short stretch of paved road, the route leads directly into the Rheinauenwald forest, which spans approximately 86 hectares. Wide forest paths offer a leisurely stroll through peaceful natural surroundings, accompanied by the chirping of birds. A highlight is the interactive bird trail designed by the Hördt Canary and Bird Protection Association. Information boards reveal fascinating facts about native species such as the black stork and the blue tit, as well as the “bird clock”—because the Eichtalweg is a paradise for birds. A rest area at the bird sanctuary hut invites you to linger. Back on the main trail, the path narrows and eventually leads out of the forest to the idyllic Spiegelbach stream. Along vast meadows, you can enjoy the peaceful silence before the trail winds past moss-covered waterholes and enchanted reeds, leading back into the forest.
