Römermuseum Bedaium in Seebruck – hier befinden sich zahlreiche Exponate der römisch keltischen Vergangenheit des Chiemgaus. Es gibt wechselnde Sonderausstellungen.

Im Römermuseum Bedaium ist die Besiedlungsgeschichte von Bedaium und der Region Chiemgau anhand der in Seebruck und Umgebung gefundenen Gegenstände anschaulich präsentiert. Mitmachstationen für Kinder sorgen für einen spannenden Aufenthalt für jede Altersgruppe. Ein interessantes Ausflugsziel bei jedem Wetter.

Woher kommt der Name Bedaium?

Bedaium war der Hauptort der keltischen Alaunen, die Römer errichteten hier 50 nach Christus den Ort an der Stelle des heutigen Seebrucks und benannten ihn nach dem damaligen dort verehrten Wassergott BEDAIVM. Er entwickelte sich zum Verkehrsknotenpunkt zwischen Salzach und Inn, hier überquerte die Römerstraße von Salzburg nach Augsburg die Alz. Die namensgebende Brücke über dem Fluss ist schon viele tausend Jahre alt. 

Ab dem Ende des 2. Jahrhunderts lag in Bedaium eine kleine Truppe von römischen Legionären, die für Unterhalt und Überwachung der Straße und des Hafens zuständig war. Am Ende des 3. und 4. Jahrhunderts sicherte an der Stelle der heutigen Kirche ein Kastell den Ort und die Brücke. Bald nach 400 zog das Militär ab. Die heutige Pfarrkirche ist nun auf dem gleichen Platz wie damals, der BEDAIVS-Tempel, erbaut.
