The sporty Chiemsee cycle path circles the Chiemsee on 54 km of good surface. It is one of the most beautiful cycle paths in Bavaria, if not all of Germany, with numerous viewpoints of the Chiemsee islands, the Alpine panorama, and the Bavarian foothills.
The Chiemsee cycle path circles the "Bavarian Sea" over 54 kilometers, the second largest inland lake in Germany with an area of 80 square kilometers. The Chiemsee cycle path is ideal for normal to sporty cyclists and e-bikers. The route runs on field paths, asphalted cycle paths and side roads and can be ridden with common touring bikes. The cycle route overcomes only a few slight elevations with 159 meters of height difference.
Why the Chiemsee cycle path is worthwhile:
- It alternately runs along panoramic sections over little-trafficked roads and past numerous bathing spots
- Several ferry landing stages offer the opportunity to visit Herreninsel with the famous Herrenchiemsee palace as well as Fraueninsel.
- The route passes nine towns with numerous refreshment possibilities and is well signposted in both directions throughout.
- The impressive lake and Alpine panorama accompanies cyclists on the entire circular route.
- It is better asphalted than the more leisurely Chiemsee circular route, which we recommend for leisurely and family cyclists.
Our tip: ideal combinations with the Chiemsee Ring Line
The Chiemsee Ring Line is a bus line service that transports cyclists and their bicycles around the Chiemsee from the end of May to mid-October.
The Chiemsee round trip is a route particularly busy in summer. It is recommended to ride it in spring or autumn or as a slower leisure rider or family cyclist to choose the foot and bike path "Chiemsee Rundweg". An alternative route suggestion would be the 16-lake round trip by bike, which also includes numerous bathing spots around the Eggstätt-Hemhofer lake district along the way.

Safety information
- Always check the lighting system, brakes, tires and reflectors of your bicycle before starting!
- Wear bright, reflective clothing in poor visibility (dusk, darkness, fog, etc.). Alternatively: vest or ankle bands with reflector strips.
- Especially in autumn and winter, leaves on the ground can conceal possible unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path.
- Additionally, attach high bicycle flags to your children's bikes so that even the smallest riders are well perceived in road traffic.
- Along the Chiemsee circular route and Chiemsee cycle path, emergency meeting points are set up.
-
Taking bicycles on boats is not possible on all ships and only to a limited extent. Therefore, the Chiemsee shipping company does not accept any liability for bike transport. Cycling is not permitted on the islands.

Roadbook
The path is signposted in both directions and cyclists can start from anywhere. The route circles the Bavarian Sea.
Here we describe the route starting from the Chiemsee Infocenter in Bernau/Felden clockwise:
- At the Felden Beach (Attractions: Chiemsee boat tour to Herren- and Fraueninsel islands, Observation tower at Irschener Winkel), the route goes northwards towards Prien, passing the Schöllkopf beach, Schramlbad and the Prien climbing forest up to Prien-Stock.
- From Prien (Attractions: Prienavera adventure pool, Local museum, Chiemsee railway, Chiemsee boat tour to Herren- and Fraueninsel islands) it continues through Osternach and Westernach towards Rimsting. The rest area on Kapellenberg near Hochstätt offers a magnificent view of the Chiemsee with the Alpine range. Then it goes on the shortest route to Breitbrunn.
- Past the Breitbrunn town hall, you reach the village of Gollenshausen via a quiet side road through the wonderful Chiemgau cultural landscape.
- Then it continues to Seebruck (Attractions: Spa park with observation tower, Roman museum, Chiemsee boat tour to Herren- and Fraueninsel islands). A detour to the Seeoner Seen nature reserve with the monastery complex is worthwhile.
- With the Alpine range in sight, it now goes south towards Chieming (Attractions: barrier-free viewing platform, Chiemsee boat tour to Herren- and Fraueninsel islands). On Stötthamer Street, turn left into Fuchsengasserl towards Oberhochstätt. From Venusberg, you experience a wonderful view of the Tiroler Ache river and mountains.
- On the way to Grabenstätt, the route passes the nature observation tower in Hirschauer Bay. There is a beautiful view of the Achental delta. In Grabenstätt itself, you'll find several attractions: St. John's Church with frescoes, Roman museum, a worthwhile detour to Tüttensee with bathing area, and the Chiemgau-Impact event. At the outskirts, turn towards Achental bridge.
- On a straight cycle path, it continues to Übersee-Feldwies (Attractions: Exter Artist’s House, Übersee Beach, Chiemsee boat tour to Herren- and Fraueninsel islands) and then along the A8 back to Bernau/Felden.
- In Übersee/Feldwies, there is an alternative route over Westerbuchberg (caution 18% descent or incline) and passing the moor and peat museum.
- The route with the incline goes over Osterbuchberg and Chiemsee moor to Bernau and leads you back to the starting point at Felden.
