Az óceánrepülők 25 óra 20 perc alatt 5770 kilométert megtéve három világrekordot is felállítottak: a kedvezőtlen viszonyok és a felmerülő nehézségek ellenére 13 óra 50 perces idővel ők jutottak el a leggyorsabban Amerikából Európába (az ír partokig), átlagsebességük 230 km/h feletti volt, melyet addig senkinek sem sikerült elérni, illetve ekkoriban ők jutottak a legmesszebbre a vén kontinens belsejébe.
A hősként ünnepelt óceánrepülők eredetileg Budaörsön terveztek leszállni, azonban egy műszaki probléma miatt korábban a földre kényszerültek: Bodmértól keletre, a kukoricásban tették le a repülőt. A két pilóta sértetlenül megúszta a gépet nem kímélő landolást.
A földet érés pontos helyét nem az út mellett álló gravírozott emlékkő jelöli, hanem az az emlékkő, mely ettől kb. 300 méterre nyugatra, a szántóföldön található.
