Bohatá fauna, či nálezisko pravekých artefaktov definujú nespútanú krásu a bohatstvo Chľabanského ostrova.
Mohutný medzinárodný veľtok Dunaj na území Slovenskej republiky vytvára nespočetné množstvo mŕtvych ramien a obmýva mnoho ostrovov, pričom jedným z nich je práve Chľabanský ostrov s rozlohou približne 20 hektárov. V maďarskom jazyku ostrov nesie pomenovanie Helemba-sziget.
Ostrov je bohatý na archeologické náleziská. Počas vykopávok boli odkryté praveké vidiecke domy, kostolík z čias Arpádovcov, okolitý cintorín a mnoho ďalších.
V roku 1970 tu predstavitelia Osmanskej a Habsburskej ríše rokovali o mieri, avšak ku vzájomnej dohode neprišlo kvôli nedostatkom ústupkov oboch zúčastnených strán.
Ide o ostrov, ktorý je na celej jeho ploche zalesnený a jeho najvyšší bod sa týči v nadmorskej výške 104 metrov nad morom. Dĺžka ostrova je 1,5 kilometra, šírka iba približne 170 metrov a tiahne sa v smere východ-západ. Situovaný je pri obci Chľaba zhruba medzi riečnym kilometrom 1713 a 1711. Ostrov je obľúbeným miestom pre volavky popolavé, kormorány, rybárika riečneho či sokola sťahovavého.
Za návštevu jednoznačné stojí približne 3 kilometre proti prúdu Dunaja miesto, kde sa Hron vlieva práve do rieky Dunaj.
