A Száka-hegyi-kőbánya
A 271 m magas Száka-hegy délnyugati oldalában nyitott külszíni fejtésű bányában a környék jellegzetes építőanyagát, a tűzkőlencsés, világosszürke füredi mészkőt bányászták. A bánya bezárását követően a mélyedést kezdetben törmelék- és talajlerakóként használták, majd amikor a feltöltés elérte az engedélyezett szintet, a rekultiváció utolsó lépéseként helyreállították a növényi fedettséget. Az egykori bányára napjainkban az északi bányafal emlékeztet, mely védett geológiai alapszelvény, a 237 millió éves füredi mészkő formáció nevű rétegsor bemutatóhelye.
A füredi mészkő keletkezése
A triász földtörténeti időszak középső szakaszában lezajlott heves vulkánkitörések nagy mennyiségű tufát juttattak a levegőbe, mely aztán a tengerbe hullott, és annak alján a tengeri üledékkel keveredett. Ez alkotja a füredi mészkő feküjét, mely a rekultivált bányaszint magasságától számítva mintegy 70 méteres mélységben található. A vulkanizmus intenzitásának csökkenésével indult el a vastagpados mészkőképződés: ekkor a mintegy 100-150 m mély, nyílt tengerrészben lerakódott mészanyaghoz csupán szilícium-dioxid (kova-) vázú élőlények maradványai keveredtek, melyek aztán sötétbarna és vörösesszürke tűzkőgumókban koncentrálódtak. Csapadékosabb periódusokban a folyóvizek nagy mennyiségű agyagot hordtak a tengerbe, mely a mésziszappal keveredve néhány centiméter vastag, szürkésbarna márgarétegeket hozott létre. Ezt követően a tektonikai erők hatására a jól rétegzett mészkőpadok a márgarétegek mentén meghajlottak.

Directions
- A Balatonfüred, Vázsonyi utca buszmegállótól a P jelű turistaúton induljunk el nyugati irányban, előbb a Vázsonyi, majd a Szőlősi utcában. Amikor a turistaút a Szőlősi utcáról balra kanyarodik, egyenesen haladunk tovább a Szőlősi utcán, melynek végén érjük el az egykori kőbánya bejáratát. Innen a geológiai bemutatóhely tábláit követve jutunk el a geológiai alapszelvényhez (1,6 km, 50 m szintemelkedés).
- Balatonfüred vasútállomásától a Z turistaúton induljunk el, melyet a Szent István térig kövessünk. A tértől a P jelű turistaúton folytatjuk utunkat nyugati irányban, érintve a Vázsonyi utcai buszmegállót, ahonnan a fent leírt módon jutunk el célunkig (3,4 km, 90 m szintemelkedés).
