A helyenként fás legelőket idéző mozaikos növényzet telis-tele van különös formájú idős fákkal, amelyek egy része már kidőlve hever, világosszürke, napszítta maradékaik láthatóan lassabban enyésznek, mint a völgyek mélyén. Ha valaki idős erdőkhöz kötődő, holtfával táplálkozó úgynevezett szaproxilofág bogárfajok után nyomoz, akkor számára a térség az ország egyik legjobb lelőhelye – ami egy átlagos turista számára csak annyit kell jelentsen: nagyon jó, természetes élőhelyekről van szó.

- A megállótól a Dorongósi utcán induljunk dél felé, és kövessük a K jelzést. A Lófő-tisztáson egyenes irányt tartva áttérünk a Z jelzésre, amely már a Kőlyuk-galya odalába vezet – ott terül el a Szentélyerdő (3,9 km, 121 m szintemelkedés).
- Kisgyőrből a Z jelzés vezet a Kőlyuk-galya csúcs közelébe, ami előtt már belépünk a Szentélyerdőbe (5,2 km, 419 m szintemelkedés).
Parking
- Bükkszentkereszten a Kossuth utca elején parkolhatunk.
- Kisgyőrben a Polgármesteri Hivatal előtt vagy a falu szélén, a kilátónál érdemes parkolni.
