The surface tells another chapter of history. During the Ottoman period, a gunpowder mill operated here, taking advantage of the water source. Beneath this structure lies the former Kőbánya Mine, now partially flooded by the cave’s waters. The layered combination of geology, industrial archaeology, and Ottoman-era infrastructure makes the site unusually complex: natural cave, mine gallery, and historical mill intertwined in one vertical slice of Budapest.
Diving is permitted but strictly organized through professional operators, given the cave’s depth, confined passages, and the risks inherent in overhead environments. This is not casual snorkeling—it is advanced technical diving in a living geological laboratory.
