Kisapáti felett, a hegy lankás szoknyáján a présházak és szőlősorok között szinte belesimul a tájba a 13. századi kis templom. Ekkoriban a terület a pannonhalmi bencés apátság birtoka volt (ahogy a település neve is mutatja), a kis kápolnát 1244-ben az akkori apát építtette. A román stílusú kápolnát a barokk korban újjáépítették, ekkor alakították ki a nagyméretű ablakokat, az új, keletelt kaput, és ekkor toldották meg az épületet északról a sekrestyével. Szentélyében késő középkori oltár, illetve szintén középkori freskótöredékek láthatók.
A törökök által lerombolt kápolnát a 18. század első felében újjáépítették. A falu a török dúlás után ismét benépesült, igaz, kissé távolabb az előzőtől, mai helyén. 1772-ben épült meg az „új falu” temploma, ekkortól vált elhagyatottá a kis hegyi kápolna. Mielőtt teljesen széthordták volna értékes köveit, 1958-ban a műemlékvédelem megmentette, és Sedlmayer János építész rekonstrukciós terve alapján helyreállította a hegy legrégibb épületét. A kis kápolna elől csodás kilátás nyílik a Tapolcai-medencére, legfőképpen a Csobánc irányába.

- A buszmegállóból induljunk a település központja, észak felé. A Z jelzést kövessük, amely a temetőnél balra, a hegy irányába kanyarodik. Néhány száz méter után egy rövid leágazás vezet jobbra a kápolnához (680 m).
- A parkolóból a Z jelzést kövessük, majd nagyjából 300 méter múlva jobbra térjünk le, és nemsokára látjuk is a kápolnát (390 m).
