Cologne - the city on the Rhine
You can discover some of the historical sights on a city tour through the old town or on a cycle tour to the Romanesque churches. In addition to the University of Cologne, there are several other universities. Many television stations, publishing houses and music producers are also based in the Rhine metropolis. The landmark of the famous city on the Rhine is Cologne Cathedral, but Cologne is also known for its local beer "Kölsch" and carnival. Outside the lively city, the charming landscape of the Rhine river valley awaits you, where you can go on beautiful hikes and cycle tours.
On the south-eastern outskirts of the city, a scenic hiking route leads through the Wahner Heide nature reserve, where you can discover an unspoilt forest, meadow and river landscape. You can cycle along the Rhine cycle path to Bonn. On this route, you will pass Cologne harbour and some of Cologne's sights such as the cathedral and the Bayernturm tower.
