Author’s recommendation
Please be considerate of nature and the animals overwintering in it during your winter hike. Stay on the designated paths and respect wildlife protection areas as well as forest-wildlife conservation areas. These protected areas are important refuges for sensitive animal species in our landscape. Especially in winter, when wild animals live on the edge due to cold and lack of food, these resting areas help them save energy and survive the time of scarcity.

Mariahilfer SudhausSafety information
Even paths that seem snow-free can unexpectedly be slippery or icy in the winter in the eastern Allgäu – especially in shady forest sections, on steep sections, near bodies of water, and at higher elevations. Snow and ice residues as well as refreezing moisture pose particular risks here. Therefore, wear winterproof clothing and sturdy footwear. Always check the conditions beforehand and adapt your activities and equipment to the circumstances. Inform yourself about the weather in advance and keep in mind that days are shorter and temperatures can drop quickly from early afternoon. You should also not undertake a winter tour alone, even if it seems easy and harmless. Always leave your tour destination at your accommodation or at home and keep your smartphone switched on so that your location can be geolocated in an emergency. The respective local tourist information will be happy to advise you on the current conditions. This way, you are well prepared for the changeable winter conditions and can enjoy your experience safely.
Tips and suggestions
Maria Hilfer Sudhaus SpeidenRoadbook
From the Sennerei Lehern the path is signposted with its own hiking trail markers. Here stands the first of a total of 5 information boards on which you can learn everything worth knowing about beer and cheese production. Afterwards, turn right to Wiedemen and follow the signposts. The path leads over meadows, through the forest, and over a small bridge - then you will already see the pilgrimage church in Maria-Hilf. In the Mariahilfer Sudhaus in Speiden, directly opposite the pilgrimage church, you can strengthen yourself with a self-brewed beer and a hearty snack before you make your way back or continue hiking to the Schloßbergalm above Zell/Eisenberg in about 45 minutes.

Equipment
In addition to weatherproof and winter-appropriate clothing in layers, you should be safely on your way with well-broken-in, high hiking boots with a strongly profiled sole.In winter, paths or sections of paths can be snow-covered, frozen, and/or icy at any time due to the weather. This may require additional equipment such as hiking poles, gaiters, and crampons (very light crampons) to walk the path. Occasionally, paths or sections may be impassable because it is too icy, there is too much snow, or the clearing vehicles are still busy clearing the most urgent streets and places first. Please take note of this, be understanding, and assess the situation on site each time.
Bring enough warm tea to drink. A healthy fruit snack or a small snack also tastes especially good on the way. Also think of sun protection if needed. If you should find yourself in the dark, a flashlight or headlamp will be of great help.
