From the cow to the cheese: At the Lehern dairy, you can experience genuine Allgäu cheese tradition up close - with a guided tour, tasting and a view of the royal castles.
At the Lehern dairy near Hopferau, genuine Allgäu cheese has been made with heart and hand for over 130 years. During a tour, you will experience first-hand how the finest cheese specialties are made from hay milk - without any genetic engineering, but with a lot of know-how.
The tour starts with a short film that shows you how milk is turned into cheese. Afterwards, a member of staff will guide you through the small cheese museum and explain the traditional production process step by step - including exciting insights into the world of dairy farming.
Finally, it gets really tasty: you can taste the cheese for yourself at a small cheese tasting. And if you want to take more with you, you'll find what you're looking for in the cheese store right next door - fresh from the loaf and regional at its best.
If you fancy more indulgence afterwards, stop off at the Käsealp: On the sunny terrace with mountain views, you can enjoy Allgäu classics such as cheese spaetzle, cheese fondue and even Hungarian delicacies - with cheese from the dairy, of course.
