Lentua - Juttua - Iivantiira wilderness paddling trip 50 km, Kuhmo
The archipelago in the northern parts of Lentua offers an interesting kayaking destination, and when combined with portages to Juttua and Iivantiira, you have an amazing paddling trip ahead. Such a circular route through stunning nature is not available elsewhere!
This multi-day paddling trip takes you through the archipelago of the Lentua nature reserve to Juttua and further to Iivantiira, from where you return via Niva back to Lentua. You get familiar with the Kuhmo wilderness areas, interesting portages with drag tracks, and wonderful rest and camping spots.
The nature of Lentua has become familiar both through Akseli Gallen-Kallela's Kalevala illustrations and through the blue thoughts of Konsta Pylkkänen, the thinker of Havukka-aho created by Veikko Huovinen.
Lentua is the largest unregulated lake in the Oulujoki water system. The shores are rocky and barren in many places, but a sandy esker ridge runs through the eastern islands. Between Vitikonsaari and Kotasaari, along the isthmus of Vetotaipale, you will find a magnificent long sandy beach. There are countless highlights along the route.
The route is suitable in length and difficulty for kayaking hobbyists, not complete beginners. There are only three rapid sections, all of which can be bypassed, and the bypass of Kaarneenkoski is especially strongly recommended. The others are easy.
There are numerous maintained rest spots, and along the route there is one wilderness hut, Lehtosaari with a lakeside sauna.
