The Vuonteenkoski rapid is a 170-metre long, straight-flowing and narrow stream. Its acidic waters are ideal for large trout or grayling. At the rocky shore you will find remains of an old mill.
Fishing is only allowed on the northern shore of Vuonteenkoski rapid
There are rarely queues of fishermen, and if you arrive at the right time you can fish the whole stretch of the rapids at your own pace. The smooth stretch of the rapid is one of the best fishing spots.
Even if you don't see any sturgeon, it's worth a try for surface fly fishing. A spinning angler can start with, for example, a small spoon, which won't spook potentially timid fish. If the fish isn't excited by these, you can try to ignite the predatory instinct by sweeping the area with a plug, small spoon, or streamer.
At first glance, the actual rapids look monotonously flat, but there are deeper pools below the surface, especially at high water. Here the fish can rest in the cool current and grab food. Vuonteenkoski rapid's final mouth is long and also a good place to fish. It is very fishable from the rocks on the shore.
There is a fish farm on the southern shore of Vuonteenkoski and moving there is prohibited.
