Kaarneenkoski rapid, Kuhmo Finland

The Kaarneentie ends near the houses on the banks of the Kaarneenkoski. There is a bridge halfway across the pond and a shed and toilet on the opposite bank in the middle of the forest. The rapid itself is steep and fast flowing. However, it is full of deep pools and side currents where trout thrive.

The Niva rapids, that Kaarneenkoski raid is part of, are feeding grounds for lake trout. The shorter rapids can be found between the large lakes Iivantiira and Lentua. The lakes are known for their good trout catches. Restricted fishing, closed seasons, and natural spawning enhance wild fish populations. In addition, the regular and abundant stocking of large trout in the Niva rapids ensures the rapids' catch. In addition, local fish farmers provide small trout fry for stocking.

At high tide, a low bridge prevents descent.

In addition to the general fishing fee, you need a separate permit. In 2023, only daily permits have been on sale. A one-day rapid fishing permit includes five (5) individual permits for the Kaarneenkoski rapid.
