This tour is one of the most spectacular trail running routes in the Allgäu: Nine peaks, narrow ridges, alpine trails, and countless meters of elevation gain make this tour the ultimate challenge for experienced trail runners.

The ridge traverse of the Nagelfluh Range is one of the most impressive and challenging trail running routes in the Allgäu. Ideally, the route runs from the Hochgratbahn valley station to the Mittagbahn valley station, connecting nine peaks along a varied trail with stunning views throughout. Sure-footedness, a head for heights, and excellent physical conditioning are required.

From the Hochgratbahn valley station, there is an elevation gain of approximately 1,000 hm to the first summit. From the Hochgrat, the route leads over the Brunnenauscharte to the Rindalphorn and continues via the Gündlesscharte and Gündleskopf to the Buralpkopf. Following the scenic ridge, the

    trail

leads to the Sedererstuiben and on to the Stuiben.

The trail continues to the Steineberg via several rocky sections secured with wire ropes. The well-known 17-meter-long ladder below the summit can be bypassed if necessary (follow the signs). After a final ascent to the Bärenköpfle, the route continues to the Mittaggipfel. From the Mittagbahn mountain station, the cable car comfortably takes tired legs back down to the valley.

Important: There are no places to stop for refreshments or to restock along the entire route. It is therefore essential to pack plenty of drinks and food in your running backpack. The route runs entirely through the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park—please stay on the marked trails and observe the conservation regulations.

    Author’s recommendation

To save on elevation gain, it’s a good idea to take the Hochgratbahn up and the Mittagbahn down (combination tickets are available from both cable car companies).
