Energy distribution
The elevation profile of the route is a classic A-shape: it continuously climbs up to Nagy-Kevély and then descends similarly. The nearly 500 m of elevation gain is not insignificant, but thanks to the distance, it is evenly spread out.
Recommended period
It can be completed at any time of the day. The order of the Kopárok cool northern and sunny southern slopes can be swapped depending on the practicalities dictated by the time of day and temperature and your preference.
Our trail running section is supported by Dockyard. The route is recommended by the legendary Csaba Németh, Hungary's most successful active trail runner.
Author’s recommendation
- We find a blue spring at the first kilometer of the route.
- The approximately 3 km section marked with P◼ after the Kevély saddle runs on the northern side of the Kevély mountains, where late autumn, winter, and early spring can bring completely different terrain conditions and noticeably lower temperatures. Be prepared for this with appropriate clothing.

In winter and early spring, keep in mind that there may still be snow and ice on the northern side of the Kevély mountains even if everything has melted on the southern side.Roadbook
Itinerary
- The P trail starts directly from the HÉV station along Ürömi road uphill, where we run for more than 7 km to the Kevély saddle.
- At the Kevély saddle, we switch to the P◼ trail, which we follow all the way to Pilisborosjenő, then continue on an unmarked path.
- From the unmarked path at the Ezüst-hegy quarry, we return to the P trail, which we take back to the Csillaghegy HÉV station on the known route.
Detailed description of the route
From the Csillaghegy HÉV station, we start on the Ürömi road on the P trail towards Dömös. The path continuously climbs. At the upper end of the Ürömi road sports ground, we turn right onto Rókahegyi road, then left onto Hegymászó street, and at its end turn right onto Gyöngyvirág street. After about 100 meters, at the blue spring on the P trail, we enter the forest on the left. We bypass Róka-hegy from the northeast on a single-track path, climbing steeply, then the terrain flattens. We wind through a charming pine grove, then cut through a shrubbery and reach an open field by the horse paddocks. We run across this, then reach an asphalt road on which we run to Budakalász road. Crossing this, we continue straight, but now on a double-track dirt road.
The path climbs, higher up past the barrier and National Park sign it becomes a path. At the top, we arrive at a road intersection; here, turning right, we stay on the P trail. Before turning, it's worth running straight about 100 m to peek into the former Ezüsthegy mine, where sandstone was once quarried. On this section, on the right, we also find a nice old, impressive triple border stone from 1823 with the inscriptions Boros Jenő, Üröm, and Kaláz.
Just above the intersection, we reach a fork, where staying on the P trail, we turn left. We climb steeply on a single-track, rocky path, then reach a charming, soft-soiled single-track ridge section that leads us through Ezüst-Kevély (413 m). Later, a new steep and rocky section follows, where we first pass a covered resting place, then reach the viewpoint. From its large rocks, we can sweep across the opposite ridge of the Buda Hills, below which lies the Pilisvörösvár basin with all its settlements. We also have a nice view of the Egri castle replica emerging green from the dizzying depth.
Continuing, we pass the paragliding launch site and arrive at the Nagy-Kevély summit (534 m). Afterwards, we start descending, initially on comfortable ground, which later becomes rocky. We arrive at the Kevély saddle, where we run right on the P◼ trail. Here, we first continue descending, then the path flattens and follows a comfortable single-track path until we cross the upper loop of the figure eight and cross the P trail. The continuation of the P◼ trail is not directly opposite but a few meters to the right.
The P◼ trail remains single-track and continues descending; in one section, it runs in a particularly deep, adventurous groove. This is how we arrive at the uppermost houses of Pilisborosjenő. At one point, the P◼ trail turns right towards the settlement, while we continue straight on an unmarked path. This widens to a double-track forest road before the end, and we arrive at the already known intersection in front of the Ezüsthegy mine. Here, turning right onto the P trail, we run back on the same route to the HÉV station.
