Via Degli Dei
The trail follows an ancient route used by the Etruscans to connect Felsina—today’s Bologna—to Fiesole. In the 2nd century B.C., the Romans built the Flaminia Militare there, a strategic road that crossed the Apennines and of which striking paved sections still remain today. After centuries of neglect, the route was rediscovered thanks to archaeological research begun in the late 1970s and subsequently developed by the Italian Alpine Club as a hiking trail.
Today, the Via degli Dei is one of the most popular hiking trails in Italy. The route generally consists of 5–6 stages and is fully marked, with GPS tracks and an extensive network of lodging facilities. In 2019, it received GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) certification for its commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism management.
Along the trail, hikers pass through the Contrafforte Pliocenico Nature Reserve, the best-preserved sections of the Flaminia Militare, forests, scenic ridges, historic villages, and sites associated with the Gothic Line, until reaching Florence. Each stage is accompanied by the culinary traditions of the regions you pass through, from the specialties of the Bolognese Apennines to the flavors of Tuscany.
Along its route, the Via degli Dei intersects with other major hiking trails, including the Cammino di Sant’Antonio and the Via della Lana e della Seta, contributing to the network of the Apennines’ great trails.

The app lets you view the route and main points of interest, find available accommodations, access useful and emergency numbers, report emergencies along the trail, and share your experience on social media.
Along the route, there are eco-friendly ceramic “tiles” that, thanks to a small electronic circuit, provide information to hikers simply by holding their smartphone close to them, while remaining connected to the trail’s central system.
