First the question arises about the direction: From the Wimbachbrücke, St. Bartholomä beckons as a worthwhile destination; from St. Bartholomä, the flatter and joint-friendly descent through the Wimbachgries. Whichever way we decide, the route leads through two neighboring valleys that could not be more different. East of the Watzmann massif awaits the mysterious Königssee with the much-visited pilgrimage church, west the impressive Wimbachgries with its massive debris flow. In between lies, at the zenith of our hike, the abandoned Trischübel-Alm.

The detour to Hirschwieskopf is steep but rewards you with a fantastic view!

    Safety information

The descent via the Sigerettplatte must not be underestimated.

Start early to avoid missing the last boat of the Königssee ferry, in case the route has to be aborted.

    Roadbook

After passing the scenic gorge at the valley entrance, the path now leads moderately steep but continuously ascending past the Wimbachschloß, formerly a hunting lodge of the Bavarian kings, to the Wimbachgries hut. From there, it continues up to the Trischübel. Once you reach the highest point of the route, you now go down via the Sigerettplatte. Passing the wooden cabin, you head towards St. Bartholomä.

From here, either take the boat across the Königssee or go up the Rinnkendlsteig to the Kühroint Alm and back to the starting point in the mountain climbing village Ramsau.
