Pilis Bike Csergezán circular route (Hideg-völgy P+B)
We have just left Budapest but find ourselves deep in the forest. From the parking lot, only a few hundred meters are needed to become one with nature. Fortunately, the technical terrain does not hinder us for a while, allowing us to focus on the small movements, sounds, and scents of the forest floor. The Anna-laki meadow is a charming resting and cultural memorial site; let’s take a break here and soak up the magic of the surroundings.
Logically, the altitude gained during the first half of the route must be lost since it’s a circular route. However, this must be done on a descent that is by no means easy or simple. The quite steep path is exacerbated by deep, soft gravel covering it. Because of this section, be sure to choose this tour only if such a descent doesn’t unsettle you or your bike. Of course, we don’t want to discourage anyone, but everyone should be aware of what they commit to when starting.
Author’s recommendation
- Due to the dense network of roads and numerous intersections, it’s worth bringing a map or GPS device, and even then, pay very close attention to the signs.

Safety information
- The descent in the second half of the route is perhaps the most technical section among all Pilis Bike routes. Only start this route if both your bicycle and you are prepared for a particularly rocky, gravelly, and steeper descent.

Description:
Hidegvölgy - Képesfa (PB11)
- Terrain: dirt road, gravel road
After leaving the parking lot, pedal for a few minutes on the Z▲ sign, then at a clearing turn left! In the forest's rather dense network of roads, you must follow a right-left-right-left combination, so it’s best to closely watch the markings at every intersection. After a rough descent, cross the paved road leading to a waste collection and recycling site operating on the grounds of a disused mine. Continue rolling until you reach the wide grader road! Turn right there and a long climb begins. Although not terribly steep, it lasts quite a while.
After reaching the top, a quick descent brings you to the Anna-laki meadow, where it’s worth taking a short or longer rest since it’s an especially calm, peaceful place. Refresh yourself before setting off again, as another climb awaits! Pedal north under the shade of the tree canopy on an atmospheric, limestone road. If you keep pedaling steadily, you’ll soon find yourself at the Képesfa intersection.
Képesfa - Summit (PB10, PB11)
- Terrain: gravel road
After the fork, start with an easy gear since a continuous two-kilometer climb awaits, which becomes steeper in the second half. At first, you ride on a comfortable, even dirt road, but the terrain gradually turns limestone-based with larger stones. Occasionally, gullies also make the route trickier. Thus, you’ll not only battle the climb but also need to carefully choose your path.
Upon reaching the intersection, turn left! For a few meters you will ride together with the Z▲ sign (which leads up to nearby Nagy-Kopasz), but shortly after, take a right to leave it.
Riding on a relatively flat and even section among the trees, in this area rich in intersections, change direction again: for a short stretch, you will join the P▲ sign.
Summit - Hidegvölgy (PB11)
- Terrain: gravel road
From the intersection head south on a double-track road, tightly enclosed by forest on both sides. The road pleasantly undulates, just enough to prepare for the upcoming section. After a little more than a kilometer, the landscape opens up and a serious descent begins. The PilisBike network’s perhaps most technical downhill awaits, where only the more experienced can stay in the saddle. You have to confront deep gravel and steepness at once. Sometimes it’s worth looking up, or even stopping, as a spectacular panorama unfolds before you.
The ground gradually becomes easier to manage, and the descent mellows. At the intersection, you’ll already hear the noise of cars since you aren’t far from the road connecting Budakeszi and Telki. Here, turning right, a long straight awaits, ending with a stony descent indicating you are close to the Hidegvölgyi rest area. Turning left along the Z▲ sign, you’ll soon find yourself at the rest area, returning to the starting point of the route.
Public transport
Unfortunately, Hidegvölgy is not easily accessible by public transport with bicycle transport. There is no railway or HÉV station within 10 kilometers, and from there, you’d have to travel on busy roads. It’s better to arrive by car at the tour’s starting point.Get Timetable to destination
Parking
The starting point of our tour is located along the main road connecting Telki and Budakeszi, which also features a huge parking lot. Even on busy weekends, it’s quite likely to find a suitable parking spot for your car.Coordinates
