The South at the End

Güssing Castle, the oldest castle complex in Burgenland from the year 1157, towers impressively on a rocky cone and offers, besides a museum with 5000 exhibits, a magnificent panoramic view into the Pannonian Plain. The castle is a popular venue for cultural events and weddings. Fürstenfeld, the second largest town in southeastern Styria, gained fame through the hit "I wül ham noch Fürstenfeld" by S.T.S. The Styrian Vulkanland with its 79 municipalities impresses with its volcanically shaped landscape and excellent culinary offerings. Bad Gleichenberg is a renowned spa town whose healing springs have been used since Roman times. The extensive spa park is one of the most beautiful landscape gardens in Austria. Gleichenberg Castle, first mentioned in 1185, was destroyed in World War II; its remains are known as the "Meixnerstube." Jennersdorf, near the Hungarian border, has been part of Austria since 1921 and is known for the Loipersdorf Thermal Spa.
