From Hinterstein to Oberstdorf
Giebelhaus, Bärgündele Alpe, Prinz-Luitpold-Haus, Himmelecksattel, Eissee, Rauheck, Kreuzeck, Fürschießersattel, Kemptner hut, Sperrbachtobel, Spielmannsau, Oberstdorf
From the Giebelhaus, the route goes over the Bärgündele up to the first overnight stay at the Prinz-Luitpold-Haus. The next morning awaits a strenuous day of about 18 km. First, you go over the Gries to the Himmelecksattel.
A descent to the Wildenfeld hut is followed by the ascent over the Eissee to the Rauheck, the highest point of the route at 2,385 m. After the grassy ridge of the Kreuzeck, a wide loop around the Krottenspitzen leads to the Fürschießersattel. Below the Muttlerkopf, you finally reach the Kemptner hut in a long curve and another hut overnight stay.
On the third day, the descent follows over the Sperrbachtobel to the managed Alpe Oberau and further to the Spielmannsau guesthouse. In the last part of the route, you go through the Trettach valley, over the Christlessee lake and the hamlets Dietersberg and Gruben to the southern edge of Oberstdorf and finally to the station in the town centre.

Public transport
Hinterstein is best reached by bus from Sonthofen station to Bad Hindelang bus station (bus 48) and from there further by bus 49 to Hinterstein »Grüner Hut«. A bus service runs between the Hinterstein car park »Auf der Höh« and the Giebelhaus at the end of the Hintersteiner valley. It runs hourly during the day, with the last journey in summer around 6 pm. Current timetables can be found at wechs.net/busverkehr.
The route ends at Oberstdorf station.
