The Mindeltal Cycle Path leads from the Allgäu to the Danube. From the Mindel spring near Ronsberg to the Mindel mouth at the Danube, it is around 85 km. Aside from a few larger climbs in the source area, the route always leads comfortably downhill along the river towards the Danube. A lovely two-day route with Mindelheim as a stage stop, suitable for families with older children.

We start our route directly at the source of the Mindel. It springs at the Mindelmühle north of Mindelberg, east of Ronsberg, and west of Kaufbeuren. After about 85 km it flows into the Danube.

To reach the source, we start our bike tour at the hamlet of Wolfs, in the municipality of Ronsberg, and head towards Eglofs. Halfway there, a signpost points us to the Mindel spring.

After arriving at the spring in the middle of the forest, we follow the road and turn left before the Mindelmühle. We head directly towards a small forest, then keep right and ride along the edge of the forest until we reach the Mindel again. At the fork, we go left and cross the bridge. After 200 m, we turn right into a wooded area and cycle up the hill. When we reach the road, we turn left and ride to Reichartsried. We pass through the village and follow the road to Schönlings. After leaving the village, the road descends in switchbacks, and at the bottom, we turn left at the next junction. We follow the road and take a right at the next fork, crossing the Ascherbach. Now we enter Bayersried and turn left at the main road. Shortly before the end of the village, at the fork, we keep right and follow the road to the forest called Bärenwinkel. We then pedal straight for 1.5 km through the forest area. After leaving it, we see Benkhofen on our right. At the next fork, we turn left, cross the Mindel and follow the paved path to the edge of the forest. Here we turn right and see the wet meadows with their biotope. Arriving at the main road, we turn left. After 600 m, we go right through the Petersbühl forest. We cross the MN 5 and continue on our field path. Now we again ride through the forest, past the Celtic rampart, where we have to keep right at the next junction. We now cycle along the forest edge below Rosskopf. At a clearing, we see the flood protection dam to the east, which we cycle over during our tour. Here we turn right, first crossing the Auengraben and finally reaching the renaturalized Mindel again. Now we turn left and follow it to Dirlewang. Upon reaching the village, we continue on the road and then turn right into Allgäuer Straße, then immediately left into Mühlbachstraße. This section is signposted for bicycles. At the brewery, we turn left and cross the Mühlbach. Then we turn right into Bgm.-Dorn-Straße. We follow it to its end and then turn left. We are now on Saulengrainer Straße. We cross the Mühlbach and the Mindel again and follow the sign to "Zum Sportplatz". We follow the paved bike path out of Dirlewang, past Hammerschmiede, and find ourselves on the left bank of the Mindel. On the bike path, we pedal left past Apfeltrach, cross the A 96 motorway, leave Gernstall on the right, and soon are below Mindelburg. Now we reach the skater park and the Maristenkolleg in Mindelheim. We continue to follow the bike path. Arriving at Champagnatplatz, we turn left, cross the Mindel, and continue on the bike path. We ride along Georgenstraße until the traffic light, where we turn right into Maximilianstraße. We now ride through the "Lower Gate" and past the Augustinian Monastery. Arriving at Marienplatz, we have reached the stage destination Mindelheim.
