Das ursprünglich als Schnäbelinstor oder auch Klostertor bezeichnete Untere Tor wurde erstmals 1263 erwähnt. Der erhaltene Baukörper weist in die Zeit um 1350. Das breite, dreigeschossige Torvorwerk wurde 1875 abgebrochen.
Heute beherbergt Mindelheims wohl ältester Torturm das "Gedächtnis der Stadt", das Stadtarchiv.
