    Safety information

    General rules:

Especially in autumn, take care that fallen leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or rainstorms, trees can still fall or branches can break off. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or ravines are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in places. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you think certain sections are not passable for you, you should avoid them.

    NOTE:

We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, situations can arise where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please heed the instructions for your safety.

Surefootedness is required on the path towards Schmelzerkopf

    The Maikur

Anyone who loves sociability should definitely come to Wolfstein over Pentecost. Open-air theater on Saturday and Sunday. Cozy atmosphere with music and dance warmly welcomes vacationers.

Off to the Maikur! This hiking tour is well known far beyond Wolfstein and something very special.

Pentecost Monday begins very early: already at 6:00 a.m., the wake-up call of the Königsland Swing Band sounds over the town of Wolfstein.

Precisely at 7:00 a.m., the historic Maikur is opened with two song performances by the men's choir on Neu-Wolfstein Castle.

Together, the ascent to the summit begins.

Numerous refreshment stations along the route provide necessary strength on the way.

Stations in the Königsberg: Schmelzerkopf, CVJM Hut, Laufhauser (Poggrecher) Pond, and Shooting House.

Old acquaintances are maintained and new ones made.

In a cozy folk festival atmosphere, the historic Maikur concludes with a dance at Waldturnplatz.

    Detailed route description

The "Maikur" route leads from the Town Hall Square in Wolfstein through Schlossgasse to the ruin "Neu Wolfstein" with a first beautiful view over Wolfstein. It continues along a narrow path towards Schmelzerkopf. Here, a forest clearing invites you to rest after a strenuous climb.

Then the route continues a bit more relaxed towards Kreuzfeld. At this crossroads many paths from different directions meet. Below the summit of the Königsberg it leads further towards Dreimärker, where the hiker enjoys one of the most beautiful panoramic views from the Königsberg to the west. At the Dreimärker fork the descent to Totenkopf begins. A wide path leads to the CVJM Hut, inviting for the next rest. Below the CVJM Hut the Maikur route passes a barbecue hut and the Laufhauser Pond or Poggrech Pond. Opposite the forest car park with the large oak begins a path to the Shooting House. Passing the Waldturnplatz down the Tauchental valley leads back after about 6.5 km and 380 m ascent and descent to the new Town Hall Square in Wolfstein.

    Equipment

For our hikes, we recommend the following equipment as standard:

    - Sturdy footwear

    - Weather-appropriate clothing

    - Sun and rain protection

    - Sufficient supply of food and drinks, as there are not always places to eat or shop available or open.

    - Even though the paths are very well marked throughout, it is recommended for safety reasons to always carry a suitable

hiking map so that you can quickly find a safe area in case of a thunderstorm or emergency.

    - Hiking poles recommended.
