The hike, partly right on the border between Lorraine and Saarland, symbolises in a special way the German-French border history. We pass old boundary stones, enjoy extraordinary distant views, and move through a region between Saarland and Lorraine where you can literally hear the silence. In Leidingen, the border runs right through the main street, an exceptional highlight for every visitor.
In Leidingen, the residents are daily cross-border commuters. The street running on the border is called "Neutrale Straße" in Germany and "Rue de la Frontière" in France. The French church stands outside the village on a hill at the edge of the forest. This is also where the hiking route starts. Through the Eberswald and later through the Dennenwald, the route leads towards Heining lès Bouzonville. Near the edge of the forest, shortly before Heining, the trenches from the Second World War are still visible.
The further we walk, the wider the view into the land, beyond Saarland into France, Luxembourg, the foothills of the Hunsrück and the Schaumberg.
Above Heining is a simple wooden cross. This place was fiercely contested during the Second World War. Quiet, wide land in the border area. The silence seems to become audible in a region where the border has completely disappeared. One country merges into another.
Behind the village Ihn, the trail leads between meadows and fields over open farmland with views over the heights of the Saargau.
A paved road leads back to Leidingen. On the left and right of the road stand old boundary stones. Between them, the road runs through no man's land on neutral ground directly to Leidingen.

Attention:
Entering the forest and using the hiking trails is fundamentally at your own risk!
Depending on the season and weather, increased surefootedness is required on certain trail sections. Therefore wear clothing and hiking boots with appropriate treads suitable for the season and weather. Be cautious of breaking branches and damaged trees. During strong winds and in winter due to snow and ice, the risk of falling trees and dropping crown parts increases.

Roadbook
The route runs mostly along the border, leading halfway through forests and shaded hedgerows. You should definitely pay attention to the signposting with the note "Recommended Running Route" as the path almost crosses itself once. At the start is the French border viewpoint window, the Heining Church and the guesthouse of the municipality of Heining (available for overnight stays). From here it goes through the Heining forest to shortly before the village of Heining, then towards Germany through a shady part, back along the border line (recognisable by the large boundary stones). On the hill you then reach the memorial site for fallen soldiers. From there, you walk along orchards, through a shaded area to the Ihn pond. Along the Ihn stream it goes over Ihn, back to the border and then along the border to Leidingen. There is also a detour to the Leiding Church and the German border viewpoint window. Passing the colourful boundary stone, you then reach the destination.
