The hike starts directly from the Aualm at 1800 meters. From here it goes over the beautifully laid out hiking trail towards the Lichtensteinkopf. 20 minutes further awaits the weather cross Aukopf, which commemorates men fallen in the World War. Afterwards, the path leads to the Schuhflicker, which is one of two limestone mountains in the Großarltal. According to legend, two shoe repairers were petrified here because they preferred to go on the mountain on a Sunday, rather than spending Sunday morning in church (that is why the Schuhflicker also has two peaks). At the summit, there is a sensational view over the Gastein valley, Großarl valley, and Salzach valley. At the foot of the Schuhflicker, the Schuhflicker lake can also be seen. A hiking trail leads down there as well. On hot hiking days, it is recommended to cool off in the lake. On the way back, you then return on the right side to the Aualm. When you arrive at the hut, homemade specialties await you that you should definitely try.

    Safety information

You should definitely be free from dizziness at the summit of the Schuhflicker. However, you can shorten the route and do not have to climb all the way up to the summit.

    Tips and suggestions

On clear summer days, you have a view up to the Großglockner from the summit!

    Roadbook

From the district Unterberg in Großarl, drive to the highest located farms Lainholz and Pointgrün in the Großarltal. Past the farms, it goes over a gravel road to the Aualm at 1800m. For those who want to go a bit further, it is recommended to park just below the Auheimalm. The hiking trail there is highly recommended. From the Aualm, take hiking trail no. 34b to the Lichtensteinkopf and further to the Schuhflicker. On the way back, hike over hiking trail no. 34 on the right side back to the Aualm.
