From Ruhestein, the path leads over the ski meadow onto the Ruhesteinberg to the Seekopf at 1,055 m. Those who prefer it more leisurely can use the chairlift. After the summit plateau, the path goes through the wonderful Grinden landscape and the national park to the romantic Wildseeblick and simultaneously to the grave of Professor Julius Euting, the world-famous orientalist and director of the University Library of Strasbourg. The co-founder and long-time president of the Vosges Hiking Club was also affectionately called the "Ruhestein Father." He sustainably promoted trail building. The King of Württemberg promised him his final resting place high above the Wildsee. While still alive, he arranged his grave, where his urn was interred in 1913. Julius Euting established a foundation. Even today, on the occasion of his birthday on July 11, the Arabic mocha he loved is drunk at his gravesite.
The further route leads the hiker through the Bannwald "Wilder See," the oldest designated primeval forest area in Baden-Württemberg and Germany, to the beautifully situated Darmstädter Hütte (a place to stop for refreshments). The "Metaweg," with many beautiful viewpoints, leads back to Ruhestein. Incidentally, Ruhestein has marked the border between Baden and Württemberg for centuries. Its name comes from a large sandstone block on which merchants and later hikers once "rested," setting down their sometimes heavy loads to pause.
