On the scenic circular route, a variety of authentic mining relics can be discovered and experienced. Tailings landscapes, water management and processing facilities, as well as numerous buildings, represent Schneeberg mining over a long period and a wide value chain of metals. Highlights to experience are the cobalt ore processing plant Siebenschlehener Pochwerk, the mountain miniature world on the premises of Fundgrube Gesellschaft, and the Filzteich as an outdoor swimming pool.

The Schneeberg mining landscape was the European center for the extraction and processing of cobalt ores in the 17th and 18th centuries. The preserved technological ensembles, including mining sites, water management systems, and processing facilities, are exceptional examples of the many developments related to the extraction and processing of cobalt ores.

The large above-ground facilities and the ore processing plants, mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries, are located in the center of a characteristic mining landscape. This is shaped by numerous tailings from the cobalt and silver mines, some dating from the 15th and 16th centuries.

One of the most important technical monuments is the well-preserved processing plant "Siebenschlehener Pochwerk," first mentioned at the end of the 15th century and built in its current form in 1752/53.

The Schneeberg mining landscape documents the leading role of the Ore Mountains in cobalt ore mining and blue pigment production from the 16th to the 19th century. Until the 18th century, the region was the leading European, if not worldwide, producer of cobalt pigments.

    Roadbook

The route begins at the Fundgrube Weißer Hirsch (Kobaltstraße 42 / B 169) from where you head right along Karlsbader Straße and then left along Stiftstraße and Forststraße to the Technical Museum Siebenschlehener Pochwerk. After a detour to Knappschaftsteich, you walk across the site past the silver smelting hut onto Lindenauer Straße and pass Siebenschlehener Pochwerk, turning into Michaelismaßen street to reach the Fundgrube Gesellschaft premises. A walk over the tailings offers interesting views of the Neustädtel area and Schneeberg. Back to Fundgrube Gesellschaft street, you pass the impressive miniature mining landscape of Neustädtel. From the street, you descend an unnamed path toward Sonnenwirbel, then turn right onto Fundgrube Sonnenwirbel street, which continues through Fundgrube Hüttengrund, Morgenstern, and Filzteichstraße to Fundgrube Daniel. From there, turn left onto Alte Hohe Straße, and at the second junction turn right onto an unnamed path passing Fundgrube Siebenschlehen and follow it to Filzteichstraße, then turn left to follow it directly to the southern shore of the pond. A forest path along the fenced pond leads to Rückdammrösche and Kunstgraben, which you enter and follow to Peter und Paul Straße to reach the eponymous Fundgrube at its end. From here, follow the green educational trail signs toward Filzbach, cross it, and follow a forest path to a field path at the edge of the forest. At a T-junction, turn right onto another field path, cross B 169, and follow it left to Fundgrube Wolgang Maßen. Passing through the mine area, go left at the rear end onto a field path, follow it uphill to another T-junction, turn left and continue straight ahead crossing B 169 again. After a few meters, turn right into Priesterstraße and follow it downhill to Schachtstraße, continue to Kirchsteig, cross it, and follow a path into Bergmannsgasse. This leads back to the start of the route, turning right onto Karlsbader Straße and then left onto Kobaltstraße to the start point.
