Veľký Choč (1611 m above sea level) is a unique hill that, thanks to its location and elevation, is a very good viewpoint. It offers distant panoramic views in all cardinal directions. Enjoy its unusual view of the Western Tatras, and you will have Liptov entirely at your fingertips.

In the village of Lúčky at the end of the route, there are the famous Lúčky Spa, AQUA-VITAL Park with thermal water and a wellness center where you can relax after a demanding hike, as well as the attractive Lúčanský waterfall.

Tips and suggestions
The ascent to Veľký Choč is interesting also because it can be reached from several starting points. Hikes are possible from Valaská Dubová, Lúčky, Jasenová, but also from Vyšný Kubín.
Roadbook
The hike can also be started in Likavka, a quaint village near Ružomberok. This route is unique also because it follows the red trail past Likava Castle, a historic monument definitely worth visiting. The route is quite varied, progressing through mountain paths and meadows. At the intersection of Stredná Poľana with the trail from Valaská Dubová, there is the accommodation "Hotel Choč." The most challenging part is the final ascent from the intersection along the green trail to the summit of Veľký Choč (1611 m above sea level). The descent from the summit towards the Žimerová area is at times even steeper and also quite demanding.

Public transport
The route is also accessible by bus transport; a suburban bus from Ružomberok will take you to the starting point of the route. However, the village of Likavka is located near the railway and bus station in Ružomberok, so another option is to start the hike right here, where a bus from Lúčky will also take you at the end. Starting from Ružomberok adds about 2 km to the route.
Parking
Parking options are sufficient and free in both villages. A good choice is two cars, with one parked in Lúčky near the AQUA-VITAL Park and the other reaching Likavka to a smaller parking lot at the end of the village, which is intended for trips to Likava Castle.
