The Mažarná Cave natural monument (830 m above sea level) is one of the largest in the Veľká Fatra, approximately 130 m long, and it hides a diverse dripstone decoration.
The cave is interesting not only for its shape but also for significant archaeological discoveries. Remains of a cave bear were found and evidence that humans inhabited the cave in the late Stone Age. The cave can be entered through a wide entrance located under the rocky wall of a gully. Upon entering, besides the lowered ceiling, you encounter a 45 m long entrance hall from which this extremely interesting cave continues in two directions – southwards through the Garnet Passage (named after finds of hand grenades from the Slovak National Uprising) and northeastwards through the Column Passage (decorated with dripstone columns, stalagmites, and sinter basins). Besides various nooks, it provides shelter for bats. The cave is managed by the contributory organization Cave Administration of Slovakia.
In the winter, dripping water in the cave freezes and gives the cave a beautiful natural scenery in the form of frozen icicles.
