The planet Earth along with its inhabitants is a - admittedly tiny but not unimportant - part of the universe. After all, it offers the best conditions for living on it! A star illuminates it day after day and sends light and warmth; a moon accompanies and stabilizes it. Water and oxygen are plentiful.
Occasionally comets appear or an asteroid narrowly passes by the Earth. We can see the stars well from here, even though they are many trillion kilometers away.
Isn't it immensely important to be informed about what happens around us? Why does the Earth orbit the sun? Where do comets come from? How much longer will the sun supply us with energy? Are there other life forms somewhere else? What do black holes do? How did everything actually begin? And how will it continue?
The planet trail offers the opportunity to develop an understanding of the vastness of the solar system and the distances between the planets.
An informative path for the whole family.

It starts at the southern end of Marktstr./corner Reiterstr. with the sun N49.19508, E8.11216. The planet panels are located on the west side of Marktstraße and continuing along Hindenburgstr. At the corner of Godramsteiner Str. the planet trail ends with the dwarf planet Pluto N49.2064, E8.11026.
Between Almendgasse and Reiterstraße, the planets Mercury, Venus, and Earth can already be seen. At the level of Kapuzinergasse, Mars follows and further north, Jupiter shortly behind Stiftsplatz. In front of the historic town hall, Saturn can be found. Beyond Nordring, Uranus is visible at the level of Nordparkstraße. Neptune follows at Eckenerstraße, and the path ends with Pluto at the end of Hindenburgstraße, just before reaching Godramsteiner Straße. Since 2006, Pluto is no longer classified as a planet, but only as a dwarf planet. Nevertheless, we have integrated it into the planet trail.
The size of the planets as well as the distances are represented at a scale of 1:4,000,000,000. This results in a length of about 1.5 km.
