Peričnik waterfall circular route
A circular hiking trail that starts at the Peričnik Lodge, leads to the Upper and bypasses the Lower Peričnik waterfall, and returns to the starting point.
You are in the only national park in Slovenia - the Triglav National Park. By following the rules, be a good example to others. Only together can we preserve this sensitive area.
Peričnik is the name of a waterfall as well as a stream that flows into the Triglavska Bistrica stream near the Peričnik Lodge. The formation of the waterfall is related to the glacial reshaping of the Vrata valley. The valley where Peričnik flows is a so-called hanging valley above the deeper, larger Vrata valley. Due to water erosion, two waterfalls formed - the Upper and Lower Peričnik. The upper part of the Lower waterfall consists of conglomerate, while the lower part is dominated by crumbly breccia, where undermines also formed, allowing a path around the waterfall.
The route starts and ends at the Peričnik Lodge, but if you want to extend the route, you can start it in Mojstrana (Slovenian Alpine Museum) and follow the Triglavska Bistrica trail, which also leads to the Peričnik Lodge.
Author’s recommendation
You can visit Peričnik as part of a larger route. From the start of the trail (Slovenian Alpine Museum) to the Peričnik Lodge is 4 km of walking. The path continues from Peričnik, passing Aljaž Lodge in Vrata toward the North face of Triglav (11 km one way).

Roadbook
The route starts and ends at the Peričnik Lodge (you can extend the route and start it in Mojstrana and follow the Triglavska Bistrica trail). On the left side of the Peričnik stream or on the right side downstream, the trail starts (at the information board) and takes you past the Lower Peričnik waterfall, where you decide whether you will continue up to the Upper waterfall or continue the route below the Lower waterfall.
The path behind Lower Peričnik is dangerous, requiring extra caution. If you continue to the Upper waterfall, you will climb up steep stairs, where it is steep at the top. You return back the same way to the Lower waterfall, where you go down behind the waterfall and circle around it. Continue the path on the left side downstream and return to the starting point at the Peričnik Lodge.
