The hike starts in front of the Kranjska Gora Tourist Information Center. The path leads left toward Hotel Lipa. At the first intersection, turn right (just before Hotel Lipa). The path leads to the bus station and continues on the left side of the residential building behind the bus stop toward the Jesenice–Rateče main road. Cross the main road and the Sava Dolinka River. Proceed straight on the wide unpaved path. After a few hundred meters, a narrow and steep path branches off to the left. Climb over Peči, which offer a wonderful view of the Julian Alps. Continue on the path to the junction with path no. 3, from where you can continue toward Podkoren or Kranjska Gora. If you take path no. 3, you will have another chance to turn left after about 500 meters, cross the Sava Dolinka River and the main road, and return to Kranjska Gora on the cycling path.

    Safety information

The following recommendations have been prepared by alpine associations to ensure that the activity is carried out as safely as possible.

    1. Building fitness

Hiking and mountaineering are endurance sports that strain the heart and accelerate blood circulation, so hikers and mountaineers must be healthy and able to realistically assess their abilities. Do not hurry; choose a pace that no one in the group will fail from.

    2. Careful planning

Maps, guides, the internet, and experts can inform you about the length, altitude difference, difficulty of the route, and current conditions. Always choose routes according to the group's abilities. Pay special attention to the weather forecast, as wind, rain, and cold increase the risk of accidents.

    3. Complete equipment

Adjust your equipment appropriately for the planned hike; your backpack should not be too heavy. Always have rain, cold, and sun protection in your backpack, as well as a first aid kit and a mobile phone (emergency number in Europe: 112). Use maps and GPS to help with orientation.

    4. Suitable footwear

Stable hiking or mountaineering boots protect the foot and reduce stress on it, improving grip while walking. When choosing footwear, make sure the boots fit perfectly, have soles with good grip, are waterproof, and lightweight.

    5. Reliable step is crucial

Falls due to slipping or tripping are the most common causes of accidents. Keep in mind that too fast a walking pace or fatigue greatly affect your step stability and concentration. Watch out for falling rocks! Careful walking will help you avoid triggering rockfalls!

    6. Stay on marked trails

On unmarked trails, the risk of getting lost is higher, as is the risk of falls and rockfalls. Avoid shortcuts. If you realize you have gone astray, return to the last place where you still know the way. Steep slopes with old snow are often underestimated but are very dangerous and you can easily slip there.

    7. Regular breaks

Regular breaks allow hikers and mountaineers to recover and enjoy the landscape and socializing. Eat and drink regularly to maintain your strength and concentration. Isotonic drinks are ideal for quenching thirst.

    8. Responsibility for children

It is very important for children to discover the landscape in a fun and diverse way. On path sections where there is a risk of falling, one experienced adult should take care of each child. Very demanding hikes requiring long-lasting concentration are not suitable for children.

    9. Smaller groups

Smaller groups are more flexible and allow members to help each other. Everyone in your group should be informed about the hiking destination and route in both directions. The group should stick together. Solo hikers beware: even a minor accident can require serious rescue.

    10. Respect nature and the environment

Protect the natural environment. Do not leave garbage behind, stay on the path, do not disturb wild or domestic animals, do not touch plants, and respect protected areas. Use public transport or ensure the most optimal utilization of private vehicles.
