Ostredok from Liptovské Revúce
Selected alternatives for you
Ostretok, with a height of 1592 m above sea level, is considered the highest peak of the Great Fatra. This route is rugged, offers unique views of the surroundings, but also a pleasant walk through the forest. The hike itself has only an average elevation gain, and therefore is not among the most demanding, but it is quite long and will take you the whole day.

Ostredok is characterized by its two peaks - the main southern and the lower northern. Both are wide and rocky, which provides perfect and unobstructed circular views, especially of the High, Low and West Tatras, Kremnica Mountains, Malá Fatra, as well as the surrounding Velka Fatra peaks.
Author’s recommendation
There are several marked hiking trails leading to Ostredok. However, they all start in the village of Liptovské Revúce, specifically in the Vyšná Revúca section (approx. 11 km). More demanding tourists will certainly appreciate the circular route, which leads through Ploská and Chyžky with a return via Krížna.

Continuing along the yellow trail, you will reach the Ploská peak (1532 m above sea level), where there is a monument from the times of the Slovak National Uprising and views of the Turca and Martinské hole areas. From there, the trail leads along the red trail through easy terrain and pleasant glades through Chyžky and Koniarky to the Ostredok peak itself (1592 m above sea level). You continue along the main Velká Fatra ridge to Krížna (1572 m above sea level) with a panoramic view towards Banská Bystrica.
