Roadbook
At Sinzig Kirchplatz you can view the parish church St. Peter, one of the most important late-Romanesque sacred buildings in the Rhineland, located directly at the start point of the hike as a tourist highlight.
From here, the route leads through the adjacent Lunapark, Zehnthofstraße, and Elsa-Brändström-Ring over Rheinstraße to the Old City Wall. Along the Harbach, we now hike to Koblenzer Straße, which is left after only a few meters to the right towards Helenenbergstraße.
Attentive hikers will have noticed: we have already been walking on the RheinBurgenWeg for the last meters – now we follow it further, first through Helenenbergstraße and Kleine Hohl and then past idyllic meadows with numerous deciduous trees up to the plateau of Mönchsheide.
Once there, we continue for quite a distance on the RheinBurgenWeg until the forest opens on the right side and the view opens up to the glider airfield of Mönchsheide. In clear weather, there is a good chance to watch some gliders being pulled into the sky.
At this point, we turn our backs to the RheinBurgenWeg and follow the Mönchsheide 3 circular route until it intersects with an asphalted path near the Kranz hut, which we take towards the Sinzig district Franken. Then, at the level of the Frankener lawn pitch, turn right into Obergasse, which ends after just a few meters at L82.
Directly opposite Obergasse, we continue – the Old Löhndorf Way leads us past meadows and fields and through a small forest to L86. This must be crossed to finally take a small ascent on the other side towards Löhndorf.
Once at the top, the forest opens and after only a few meters we pass Beuler Hof on the right. From here, follow the signs of the Barbarossaschleife BLUE, and soon the Gerhardshof guesthouse offers the opportunity to rest. Until the next Sinzig district, the rose village Löhndorf, the path offers wide views over Sinzig, the comital territory, and not least of Mühlenberg – the summit with the Cäcilia hut is now within reach.
After passing the center of Löhndorf and the St. Georg church, the Barbarossaschleife BLUE crosses K44 and soon meets the AhrSteig. We follow this on the ridge of Mühlenberg, with views towards the district Westum and the Sinzig core city and past the Sinzig generation forest, until it goes right towards Feltenturm and the Cäcilia hut at its foot.
After enjoying the lively summit and the magnificent view from Feltenturm, we first walk back a short distance and finally return to the start point at Sinzig Kirchplatz via Mühlenbergweg, Am Hellenberg, Landskroner Straße, and Mühlenbachstraße.
