Knowing of Barbarossa's connection with Sinzig, the Bunge-Koenigs family commissioned the Cologne sculptor Wilhelm Albermann in 1875 to create a Barbarossa statue for their summer residence. In 1951, the granddaughter of the Bunge couple, Else von Wedderkop, bequeathed the statue to the city of Sinzig with the condition of its preservation. With great ceremony and many honored guests, it was moved that same year from its original location next to the castle to its current place in Lunapark.
