In 1913, Josef Hardt discovered a rich spring on the grounds of the former spa park, called "St. Joseph-Sprudel." In 1919, Hardt, along with his sons, succeeded in acquiring the still-existing carbon dioxide gas liquefaction plant from the Augsburg machine factory Riedinger, and installed it in the first stone building to the right of the Ahr. This enormous transmission system with three compressors and a powerful electric motor impresses museum visitors greatly today. The interplay of this technology showcases high engineering knowledge and mechanical craftsmanship from 100 years ago.
