Introductory Hike on the AhrSteig with Public Transportation Access (Laufenbacherhof - Insul)
An impressive introductory tour to get to know the AhrSteig and let yourself be enchanted. This short section showcases the most distinctive features of the entire route.
The starting point, Laufenbacherhof, is easily accessible by public transportation. A soft forest trail begins gently but soon becomes more challenging as it winds along the spectacular Jägerpfad toward the sandstone cliffs, which have taken their place here with their rugged, angular forms. They exude strength and steadfastness; they were already there before humans found their way to this region. After these initial experiences, a break in Schuld for a picnic is a welcome opportunity.
Refreshed and re-energized, the hike continues to the Spicher Ley rock massif. The trail winds its way up a narrow path until it reaches the small hut nestled in the middle of the rocks. The view of the Ahr Valley is breathtaking, enchanting, and simply beautiful. How long do you think it took the elements to shape this landscape? The trail leads back down into the valley toward the Ahr. Over thousands of years, water carved out the Prümer Tor rock formation, through which vassals once drove their tithes to the feudal lord on carts. Insul is now almost within reach, and the desire to see more of the AhrSteig begins to take hold. Perhaps next time?
In Insul, the country inn and country hotel invite you to enjoy a relaxing break. Afterward, take bus lines 861, 865, or 899 back to the starting point.
