In the local dialect, the mining area with the 3 tunnel entrances in the so-called Copper Mountain has always been referred to as "Goldloch".
In the local dialect, the plot of land with the 3 mine entrances in the so-called Kupferberg has always been referred to as "Goldloch". However, neither gold nor any other precious metals have provided the local inhabitants with any monetary benefit in recent times. Rather, the tunnels served as a refuge from bomb attacks during World War II after mining ceased in the 1930s and for children, for a long time, as a secret adventure playground.
In the summer of 2015, the area was cleared by the local community. Subsequently, the mine openings were professionally sealed and secured. The forecourt has been developed as a information site about the mines with a miners' hut. This hut also serves as a shelter for hikers and cyclists. The open areas inside the hut are equipped with information boards on geology and the significance of mining for the Eifel region, effectively conveying the history.
