From Rickenbach, the yellow lozenge of the Black Forest Association leads us to the entrance point of the Hotzenpfad at Squirrel Square above Bergalingen. We follow the premium trail through the Kirchgrubenholz. Yellow sandstone was quarried here, among other uses for the construction of the parish church in Rickenbach. The Salpetererstein and the “Ten Commandments” at the Decalogue Place invite you to pause. The next station is the Solfelsen, a group of granite rocks. It has been a natural monument since 1950. From there, we follow the game path along the remains of a historic fortification wall to the Klingenfelsen with a view over the High Rhine. Further magnificent views are offered by the 886 m high Heuberg at the glider airfield Hütten. On the way back, we follow the “Heidenwuhr,” a 14-kilometer-long artificial canal. It was presumably built in the 11th century to operate hammer mills and mills and to irrigate meadows.

    Roadbook

The starting point of our circular hike is the small parking lot below the Rickenbach church near the bus station (720 m above sea level). Following the yellow lozenge of the Black Forest Association, we head towards "Bergalingen" and climb up to the Heidenwuhr (786 m), which we will explore more thoroughly on the way back. We cross the canal, continue westwards along the forest edge following the yellow lozenge, then turn left to the opposite forest corner to the entrance of the Hotzenpfad. Passing the Squirrel Square and Alpine Panorama Place, we walk through the Kirchgrubenholz to the Salpetererstein. Ten granite boulders shortly thereafter at the Decalogue Place announce the "Ten Commandments" from the Old Testament. The seating group at the Solfelsen invites you to a first rest. Wide views over the High Rhine are offered by a viewpoint below it, another sky lounger above the Spatzenhof, and finally the Klingenfelsen on the game path. Upon reaching the 886 m high Heuberg, we can stop at the Fliegerklause at the glider airfield Hütten and, with some luck, enjoy the magnificent view of the Alps from the terrace (closed on Mon/Tue). On the way back to Rickenbach, weather permitting, there is also a view to the north towards the Belchen. After crossing the district road, we meet the Heidenwuhr again, which we cross after a few meters. For the following 2.4 km, we walk on the narrow path back to the starting point of the tour. We return to Rickenbach on the familiar path.
