Remains of a settlement from the early Middle Ages, various finds and excavations, e.g. flint arrowheads from the Neolithic Age and ceramics from the early Middle Ages, are testament to the historical and ritual importance of the Orensberg. Wall remains on the Orensberg initially pointed to a Celtic ring wall measuring 2.5 kilometres in length. It is now known that these are the remains of a Carolingian refuge.
