The path mostly leads through forest areas, but frequently opens up views into various valleys. Highlights are the Baroque palace Bürgeln and the medieval ruins of Sausenburg.
The hike starts in Kandern at the Kandertalbahn train station, which is operated as a museum railway – it is also affectionately called "Chänderli." The Bürgeln circular route leads through varied landscape with beautiful views of the Baroque palace Bürgeln. A visit is always worthwhile: not only for the gastronomy but also for a castle tour. Hochblauen and Sausenburg greet from afar. From the castle, the path leads to the Lippisbach and through the Schnegelbachtal to the ruins of Sausenburg, the ancestral seat of the Lords of Sausenburg. From the castle tower, there is a view over the landscape at the foot of the Blauen to the Vosges and the Alps. Upon reaching the hike's destination, Kandern, it is worth taking a city tour and also visiting the ceramics museum.

Roadbook
The hike starts at the Kandern Train Station, also known for the Chanderli museum railway, and passes the signpost Palmgarten towards the swimming pool and then past the campsite, partly along narrow trails following the Lippisbach valley. At the junction Neuenbürg, turn left on a narrow path to the Probstwald and continue upwards to St. Johannis-Breite. Upon exiting the forest, there is a beautiful view of Bürgeln Castle, Hochblauen, the Sausenburg ruins, and the village of Sitzenkirch. From St. Johannis-Breite, there is a view down into the Eggenertal, known for its cherry blossom in spring. After crossing the road, follow the forest edge and after approx. 500 m turn left on a path into the forest upwards through the castle saddle to Bürgeln Castle. The Baroque palace invites you to stop for a break and a visit. Then continue via Bürgler Waldwegli and downwards through the Klosterhalde to the Lippisbach and through the Schnegelbachtal upwards to Lindenbückle. The further route now continues on the Westweg passing the Sausenburg ruins, at the junction Wässerliwald to the Langenebene hut and to the viewpoint Hässler on the Heißbühl with a beautiful view of Kandern, back to Kandern.
