After the hut is before the hut – there is no shortage of places to stop for food or of panoramic views.
After the ascent along the waterfall path, the Sportheim Böck waits at the upper station of the Alpspitzbahn, which was refurbished a few years ago as a modern Alpine Lodge with a great view of the Zugspitze from the sun terrace. Also nice: the Kappeler Alm and the rustic little Hündleskopfhütte, the first vegetarian hut in the Alps. In Pfronten-Kappel, you can watch climbers at the Waldseilgarten Höllschlucht as they climb up to 10 meters above the forest floor through the courses or immediately try out the treetops yourself after the route. Gourmet option: ascent via the Alpspitzbahn.
Author’s recommendation
Families with children aged 6 and up can securely climb on seven courses at the forest rope park, overcome nets, bridges, or swaying tree trunks, and occasionally cross the mountain stream in a thrilling ride via flying fox.

Safety information
During this route, you will pass grazing pastures, so please observe the following instructions from the Bavarian Farmers' Association:
Hikers, cyclists, and visitors like to come to the alpine pastures and enjoy the local views with a hearty snack. Not only people live on the alpine pastures but especially grazing animals. Cows, calves, sheep, and horses enjoy their "summer retreat" there. To prevent any unwanted encounters between you and the animals, here is a collection of behavioral rules from the Bavarian Farmers' Association.
- An alpine pasture is not a petting zoo! Avoid direct contact with the animals.
- Do not take selfies with grazing animals.
- Keep your distance from the animals!
- Avoid herds with calves. Cows protect their calves!
- Walk slowly through the pasture.
- Avoid sudden movements. Animals are easily startled.
- Do not make noise.
- Do not separate individual animals from the herd.
- Leash dogs! Cows instinctively react nervously to dogs. If there is danger: release dogs from the leash!
- Watch for warning signals from the cows! For example, lowering the head, pawing, or bellowing.
- Do not approach cows from the front. Cows have a pronounced lateral field of vision.
- Do not turn your back on cows without looking.

Roadbook
From the hiking parking lot in Pfronten-Kappel, directly next to the Waldseilgarten Höllschlucht, follow the signs towards Nesselwang/Extreme Sports Center. This will take you directly to the Kappeler Höhenweg, which leads you on varied forest and meadow paths towards Nesselwang. The markings on this section are somewhat faded, so pay close attention at intersections. The Kappeler Höhenweg ends at the forest festival ground of the municipality of Nesselwang; from there follow the "Wasserfallweg" signs straight ahead, then turn left after a few meters. The waterfall path leads you over numerous stair steps past the Schlossbächl towards Sportheim Böck, crossing the forest road twice. A short detour to Sportheim Böck is worthwhile as it is the first of many places to stop and is especially impressive with its great view from the sun terrace. From Sportheim Böck, the route descends a few hundred meters via the forest road until you turn right towards Kappeler Alp. A wide hiking trail takes you to Kappeler Alp after a short time. The route then leads down the road until you turn right to Hündeleskopfhütte. From the hut, return the same way to the road, from where you turn right to the hiking parking lot and the tour’s starting point.
An alternative starting point for the route is the parking lot at the Alpspitzbahn in Nesselwang.
