From Annenheim station on the narrow shore of Lake Ossiach, we take the legendary Kanzelbahn cable car up the steep flank of the Gerlitzen-Bergstock. The view opens up with every meter of ascent: more lake, more panorama - simply spectacular! Carinthia's oldest cable car was opened in 1928 especially for summer visitors. Today's mountain station (1,445 m), our starting point for this circular hike, is located on the back of the Kanzel ridge.

The path leads us gently uphill through dense spruce forest back to the Kanzelhöhe. This is where the original Kanzelbahn cable car ended and the first hotels were soon built - no wonder with this view! A charming mountain promenade leads us on the sunny side uphill through panoramic mountain forest to Waldtratte. Green ski slopes and restaurants are evidence of today's winter sports fun. Numerous vacation homes are hidden in the mountain forest, then the trail leads uphill through a wonderful spruce forest - pure mountain nature idyll! At the edge of the forest, close to the sky, the Asian garden with its Zen aspects inspires reflection. We gain height through the sunny summit meadows and the panorama becomes ever more magnificent. On the expansive grassy knoll on the roof of the Gerlitzen, a king-of-the-world feeling sets in: the world of lakes, bold mountain giants, gentle peaks ... pure Carinthia! A viewing platform explains the breathtaking panorama. The highest point (1,909 m) lies inconspicuously between the cable car stations and the summit house. Congratulations!

On the descent, we stroll downhill along the western ridge, always with the legendary Nockberge and Hohe Tauern mountains in view. From the tree line, we continue through rustic mountain forest. At Stifterboden, a small oasis with vacation huts is reminiscent of a summer retreat, then it gets lonely again. At the Steinernes Tisch, we leave the forest ridge and hike down the forest flank to the rustic Steinwenderhütte (1,473 m) - a highlight of Carinthian hut culture! Here you can enjoy Carinthia with your palate in a wonderful mountain atmosphere. We walk almost flat over to the Kanzelbahn mountain station along leisurely forest paths. The cable car takes us back down into the valley.
