After starting in Birkenfeld, the route first leads to the Fischwaid recreation area. The beautifully situated fish ponds are worth a first short rest. The route continues past meadows and fields to Brücken and on to Abentheuer. The historic ironworks is on the right-hand side of the path, and the route now follows the old ore trail along the edge of the national park towards the Saarland border. If you wish, you can extend the tour from here via Sötern to the Bostalsee lake, from where you can return via the local cycle path. We continue to follow our route markings and cycle downhill through the Traun valley to Hoppstädten-Weiersbach. Passing the railroad station, the route takes us along an old railroad line alongside the Steinaubach, via a section of the local cycle path, back to Birkenfeld.
