The Bienwald is the largest forest area in the Palatinate Rhine plain. In this unique alluvial fan landscape, numerous brooks run, along whose banks a special flora and fauna can be found.
On this short day stage, you can experience the diverse Bienwald up close. The varied landscape with its babbling brooks, gnarled trees, moors, and dunes can be comfortably cycled on the flat route. For variety, the sections in Büchelberg and between Freckenfeld and Kandel offer change. The village of Büchelberg lies like an oasis in the middle of the forest area and offers a magnificent bloom especially in spring with its orchards. The brook lowlands adjoining the Bienwald between Freckenfeld and Kandel offer flowery meadows and pastures. Bruchbach, Otterbach, and Heilbach are just three of the numerous brooks and ditches running through the Bienwald. Even if some brooks may carry little water in summer, their banks show a unique plant world. The wooden street signs in the Bienwald tell their own story, as each forest path has its own name, e.g., "Mordsallee".
UFFBASSE! – Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
- Considerate travelling – Always behave foresightedly, kindly, and considerately towards everyone you meet on the way. This applies especially on agricultural roads where winegrowers, farmers, and foresters also work on weekends.
- Picnic & rubbish – Take a rubbish bag with you and take your waste back home. Use only the furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
- Nature conservation – Stay on designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when moving in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest to avoid disturbing the rhythm of nocturnal animals.

Those who do not want to ride on the country road in the south can choose the car-free option through the forest. Corresponding route information signs indicate the "more enjoyable route" near Scheibenhardt and Bienwaldmühle.

Safety information
Sections of the route in the forest may be partly gravel. We therefore recommend doing the bike tour with suitably equipped bicycles.
Cycling on agricultural roads – Our cycling routes often run on paths shared with others. We therefore ask for considerate and friendly interaction at all times. Winegrowers, farmers, and foresters use the agricultural roads through fields, forests, and vineyards for their daily work – also on weekends. Due to work deployments and/or weather conditions, the paths may be more heavily soiled at times. Special caution is also advised when crossing streets in and around Palatinate villages. Road closures and detours must be strictly observed.
Hazard situations – In an emergency situation, quick help is needed. Although mobile phones can send GPS signals, classic rescue points are often the fastest. These are located at places accessible to emergency vehicles. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. Return to these in an emergency and provide the number on the sign when calling for help. This way, rescuers will know where to find you.

Roadbook
From the Naturfreundehaus Kandel, you can cycle this either clockwise or counterclockwise. You always follow the Bienwald-Bäche-Tour logo (blue curved brook line with green and two trees). Clockwise, we first pass through Büchelberg, where you can stop at the farm shop at Soellingstr. 3 (Opening hours). Then we continue through the Bienwald to Scheibenhardt. In Scheibenhardt, we follow the L545 towards Bienwaldmühle. Halfway there, the forest inn Bienwaldmühle invites you to a well-deserved break, where you can refresh yourself with a Palatine dish and a cool drink or simply with delicious cake and coffee. Behind the Bienwaldmühle, turn right onto Bildstraße back into the forest. We follow the signs through the forest until we reach the K24 to Freckenfeld. At Freckenfeld, turn right along the Dorfbach, south past Minfeld - a detour to the Eisheisel in Minfeld is worth it for a tasty ice cream - until we reach the Naturfreundehaus Kandel again by turning right in front of Kandel.
