Stadt Sonthofen
The Alpsee-Grünten Waterscape route combines sporty enjoyment with refreshing experiences in the stunning Allgäu landscape! The element "water" accompanies you along the entire route.
The journey starts in the mining village Burgberg at the nature experience station at the quarry. After just a few kilometers, the first cooling awaits at or in the idyllic Ortwanger quarry lake. The route continues along the Iller bike path to the cycling town Sonthofen. By the way, the southernmost town in Germany!
Past Sonthofer lake, the route continues on gravel paths along the Iller over Bihlerdorf to Blaichach. Here you will find the next stop: the idyllic Inselsee, perfect for a short break and refreshment. At Inselsee there are three water ski lifts, an aqua park and a pretty café with a large sun terrace.
Next is the charming Residenzstadt Immenstadt, where you cycle through historic alleys and can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere with a scoop of ice cream or a coffee on Marienplatz.
From there the route leads to Rettenberg, known as Bier.Genuss.Dorf. Here a cozy stop in a beer garden is recommended – ideal for a refreshment with regional specialties and a cool drink.
Via the small village Wagneritz you return to the starting point in Burgberg.
Along the entire route you can expect great views of Grünten, the Allgäu Alps, gentle hills and plenty of bathing opportunities. So: don't forget your swimwear! This route is a perfect mix of nature, exercise and enjoyment – ideal for everyone who wants to combine cycling and swimming in lakes.
