An ideal route to get to know Bad Bentheim with the district of Gildehaus and the surrounding area.
From the street "Am Kathagen" you have a wonderful view south into the northern Münsterland. On the way to Gildehaus you will be rewarded with a beautiful forest path and further long-distance views. A special feature in Gildehaus: the tower of the reformed church meets you freestanding, away from the nave.
Then continue to the Ostmühle with the bakehouse. The windmill is still operated in the summer months on Saturdays by leisure millers. Take time for a walk through the Bürgergarten or a visit to the Otto Pankok Museum. On Mühlenberg you also pass the Lukas mill. It served as the studio of the local painter Friedrich Hartmann (opening times: https://www.friedrich-hartmann-museum.de/).
The route continues to the Romberg with the Gildehaus sandstone quarry and the geological open-air museum. Passing Gut Langen, you ride back towards the old town and castle park. A visit to the sandstone museum is worthwhile here.
